Catch in the Kitchen - Blue Trout

Mike, The Editor, gave me a book to have a look at called "The Armchair Angler" and said "check out the Blue Trout article and see what you think'.

This article described Blue Trout as "pure unadulterated essence of trout'. What really intrigued me about this recipe was why call it "Blue" trout. Apparently the colour comes from the same lubricant that makes a fish slippery and when cooked gives the fish a light metallic blue tingle.

Lake Mackintosh is your typical deep tannin stained West Coast Lake that was dammed in the 1980s to create the Mackintosh Power station. The lake has flooded up into native forest, limiting much of the shore access to the boat ramp area at the Mackintosh dam. To explore the full potential of this lake, you need a boat to access every corner. The lake is home to both brown and rainbow trout with it opening at the beginning of the brown trout season and finishing at the end of the rainbow trout season. The lake has a bag limit of 12 fish per person per day. To access the lake you need only drive to the town of Tullah via the Murchison highway and follow the signs.

New launching area for Lake Mackintosh

In response to concerns from the angling community regarding safe launching and retrieval of boats in southerly or south – westerly weather MAST has provided funding to upgrade the boat ramp at Lake Mackintosh.
Various proposals have been considered and a site meeting was held in May 2012 with representatives from Hydro, MAST, IFS and local anglers to explore all the options.
